Bavaria

Over 25 years of smoothly running wastewater treatment at a brewery

In 1984, Dutch beer brewer Bavaria needed to increase its wastewater treatment capacity. Paques installed a BIOPAQ®UASB to its existing aerobic clarification plant, reducing aerobic sludge and aeration cost.

More than 25 years later, the installation is still functioning properly. 10,000 kg of COD/day is treated, generating 2800 m3 of biogas daily. In 2004, Bavaria wanted to remove the hydrogen sulphide from the biogas, and PAQUES installed a THIOPAQ® scrubber. The installation removes 25 kg of sulfur per day, after which the biogas is ready for the gas engine that generates electricity and heat (approx. 500 kWe installed capacity, 5000 kWe per day electricity production).
