DSM

Successful retrofit in existing anaerobic wastewater treatment plant

DSM’s production location in Delft, the Netherlands, needed to replace their existing three phase separators. After 23 years of operation, the settlers in the anaerobic wastewater treatment of their fermentation process did not perform properly anymore. They were no longer suited for generating biogas and could not be repaired.

DSM chose to replace the existing separator modules with BIOPAQ®UASBplus modules to ensure good biogas collection and optimal biomass retention.

The technical and biological start-up was fast and successful. The biogas production and the COD conversion are good and meet DSM’s expectations. The biomass grows slowly and is well retained in the bioreactors. Since the start up in 2008, time virtually no maintenance and no additional sludge was needed.
