Paulaner

Replacing up to 20% of natural gas use with biogas from wastewater

German beer brewer Paulaner wanted to treat their wastewater before discharging it into the sewers of the city of Munich. The brewery is located in a residential area near the city centre. Only an extremely small area of 70m2 was available for the wastewater purification installation. Noise and odour emissions could absolutely not be exceeded.

The Paulaner brewery expanded the capacity of its existing wastewater purification installation with a BIOPAQ®IC reactor and CIRCOX® reactor, processing 13,000 COD/day. Paulaner now replaces 15-20% of its natural gas with biogas from wastewater. The treatment plant is a closed system without emissions: there is no noise and no odour pollution. The wastewater can be discharged into the public sewer system without any problems.
