BIODESOX™

BIODESOX™ removes SOx (SO2 and SO3) from gases and converts it into elemental sulphur.

The technology can be applied to a wide range of gases and temperatures with a SOx concentration from anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of ppm’s. BIODESOX™ is especially suitable for gases that contain dusts with heavy metals.

Other technologies produce – for example – polluted gypsum that often must be landfilled. This is not the case with BIODESOX™, making it the technology of choice when disposal costs for polluted gypsum or sodium sulphate are high or when sulphur or its intermediate product sulphide can be applied usefully.

Importantly, the tonnage of solid material (sulphur) to handle is five times less than that of gypsum.

The technology can be applied in all kinds of industry (power generation, oil & gas, fermentation industry, metal processing industry).

Advantages of BIODESOX™ compared to traditional technologies

Working principle

At the core, BIODESOX™ is a regenerative carbonate scrubber. Common absorbers (scrubbers) can be used in the SOx absorption process, even existing ones. Regeneration consists of biological sulphate reduction that feeds on an energy source for the biocatalyst (bacteria) such as alcohol or hydrogen gas. An organic waste stream on site would be excellent to function as a food source for the bacteria. Dissolved sulphide is formed, then converted into elemental sulphur; then separated from the scrubbing liquid and recycled to the absorber.
