COD reduction in wastewater of ethanol production units
Zhaodong COFCO Bio-energy and Bio-chemical Co. Ltd. Produces edible alcohol, fuel ethanol, dried distiller’s grains with solubles (DDGS) feed and corn germ oil from corn. The company processes 1.2 million tonnes of corn per year and the annual output of ethanol is 400,000 tonnes. Paques designed a solution for the treatment of wastewater discharged from the ethanol production unit, in order to reduce COD levels. In 2006, Paques installed a BIOPAQ®IC bioreactor, BIOPAQ®Biogas Flare and BIOPAQ®Biogas Buffer. This installation was expanded in 2010 to cope with the output from other ethanol units.
