Reuse of effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment works
Theme park the Efteling stopped using groundwater and now uses treated effluent from a municipal wastewater treatment works for replenishing their ponds and irrigating the adjacent golf course.
A reliable quality and quantity of the reused water is secured by using ASTRASAND® continuous sand filtration. It reduces phosphate levels before subsequent treatment in a constructed wetland, thus efficiently controlling eutrophication and algae bloom. The theme park pumps 385,000 m3 revitalized effluent into its water system every year.
