Frozen food production: closed loop installation reduces water consumption by 50%

Pasfrost is a Belgian food processing company and supplier of frozen vegetables that wanted to reduce its use of groundwater by 50%. Local groundwater levels were dropping and the quality of water was deteriorating, so an alternative, sustainable solution was needed.

Paques designed and installed a closed loop installation. The wastewater undergoes anaerobic and aerobic treatment and is further upgraded by ultra-filtration. This is followed by a two-step reverse osmosis and UV-treatment as an extra precaution. Pasfrost recycles this treated water, reducing the use of groundwater by half, to less than 2 m3 per tonne of product.
